What to Expect from The Bowerbird

All the stuff I’m busting to share that I don’t have time to chat about when I’m novelling or podcasting at The First Time Podcast. Every month, as a free subscriber, you’ll get a bunch of recommendations - things I’m reading, listening to, lit events, creative industries chatter or the bazillion fabulous things I find along the PhD path. You’ll also get behind the scenes chat on what it’s like to write, draft, angst over and (hopefully!) publish my third novel. If you’re a paying subscriber the writing gods will smile on you PLUS you’ll get an extra post each month, and an opportunity to post questions about writing, publishing podcasting or anything you reckon I might have a worthwhile take on that I can answer in upcoming posts. Yes - I’ll include links to anything I’ve got coming up, sometimes these will be free events and sometimes they’ll be paid courses - a little bit of well placed advertising that I hope you’ll put up with :)

Why subscribe?

Cos it’ll make you feel good? Seriously though, I’m loving that my inbox is now peppered with stimulating, interesting, well-crafted words by the writers I subscribe to in amongst the gazillion sale pitches from some company I gave my email to ten years ago. And I love that I can pay for that labour (not for all of them - yet! - but I’m working on a budget!). As those of you in creative industries are probably acutely aware of, average author incomes in Australia are ridiculously low ; being able to independently draw income from our words via newsletters is one (small) way we can address that. If you are in a position to become a paying subscriber to The Bowerbird or to any substack newsletter, you are helping to create a culture where artistic labour is valued, and that’s got to be a good thing, right?

Stay up-to-date

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox. Some subscribers find the email goes missing in their junk, check there or get in touch if you’re not receiving updates.
