Hi Kate, are there residencies for people who are not published writers?

Hi Tracy x Some of those ones I mentioned like Varuna, KSP and Jacky Winter absolutely take applications from unpublished writers - the application asks for samples and you generally make your application about a particular project - whether it be a collection, a novel, a non-fic project etc. You usually supply a 'writing resume', a project overview including what you plan to do on the residency, a sample of writing and some ask for a Letter of Support - which you can get a writing peer, mentor etc to do for you. Many of those places - including Michael King Writers Centre in Aotearoa also accept paid residencies (I did that for my first time at Varuna when I needed to finish a draft quickly!) if that is an option for you. Hope that's useful! K x

This is wonderful. Thank you. Have you written any blogs on how you manage to be effective while still navigating the insanity that is life insitu?
